Aleshin suffered a concussion, chest injuries, fractured ribs and broken clavicle in the accident and has remained in hospital, firstly in California before being transferred to Indianapolis last week.

His team, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, confirmed on Tuesday that the Russian has now been released from hospital and will continue his rehabilitation in Indianapolis.

"I'm feeling better each day," said Aleshin. "I'm very happy to be back in Indianapolis with my friends and the team. The doctors are taking very good care of me.

"Everything is going as planned with my recovery, and before you know it I'll be back behind the steering wheel."
