Kobayashi's position has been uncertain since Tony Fernandes sold the team back in July. He then missed the Belgian Grand Prix last month, when he was replaced by André Lotterer, while he received a last-minute telephone call to return in Italy.

Kobayashi told GPUpdate.net in Italy that his future with the team was unclear, but it has now been confirmed that he will race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit this weekend.

Spaniard Roberto Merhi had been strongly linked with the Caterham race driver, but he only drove in first practice at Monza. On Wednesday, the Caterham team announced Kobayashi will also be racing at the Marina Bay circuit this weekend alongside Marcus Ericsson.

"After finishing ahead of our closest rivals in Italy, I look forward to another good fight out on track in Singapore,"  said Kobayashi, "It will be good to see what we are capable of with the updated car at the Marina Bay street circuit – at street circuits anything can happen and we need to make sure we do our best."
