The longest stint: Mike Rockenfeller involuntarily completed the longest stint of the race. Only at the end of lap 32, after having covered a distance of 137.824 kilometres in one go, the Phoenix driver switched from his options to the standard tyres. Originally, the 2013 DTM Champion had planned to use the option tyres for opening a gap on the rest of the field in the first half of the race – and defend his lead afterwards. Four safety-car periods at the wrong points in time, however, prevented him from doings so – and his strategy failed.
The fastest pit-stop: The fastest pit stop of the race was executed by the BMW Team Schnitzer crew on Martin Tomczyk’s BMW M4 DTM. On lap 17, the German needed just 22.017 seconds from the checkpoint at the pit-lane exit to the one at the pit-lane exit. With this stop, the Schnitzer crew was more than three tenth of a second faster that RMG, the new champions, on the car of new DTM Champion Marco Wittmann.
The highest top speed: The fastest driver at Zandvoort was Pascal Wehrlein. The young German passed the speed trap at the end of the home straight with his DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé at 267kph. Once again, the difference between the fastest and the slowest driver was remarkable: Adrien Tambay passed the speed trap at just 254 kph.
The fastest race lap: Marco Wittmann was the one who set the fastest race lap at Zandvoort – as early as on lap two. The BMW works driver crossed the line of the 4.307-kilometre circuit in 1:32.411 minutes, representing an average speed of 167.785kph. Mike Rockenfeller, the second-placed driver in this ranking, was 0.130 seconds slower, on his personal fastest lap.
The best result in the season: Vitaly Petrov is making consistent progress. At Zandvoort, the Russian once again secured his best result in the 2014 DTM season. His best result to date had been the 12th place he secured at the Lausitzring while he finished 11th at Zandvoort, thus coming even closer to scoring his first DTM points. And if we can rely on the statistics, he will do so in the season finale at the Hockenheimring.
