Tanak has been part of DMACK’s programme this season and will remain on those tyres in an M-Sport supplied car, the same combination he used to take sixth on his top-class WRC debut on the same event in 2011.

DMACK has homologated a new tyre specifically for the Welsh event and managing director Dick Cormack has very high hopes.

“There’s no doubting how quick Ott is,” said Cormack.

“Certainly I think a podium is realistic for him and, if things are going well then why not push for the win?

“We’ve given him the car and we’re just going to ask him to drive it as fast as possible.”

The new tyre is a revised soft compound cover, with added strength in the sidewalls.

Tanak has competed in a Fiesta RS WRC twice this season, finishing fifth in Monte Carlo and then running as high as second in Portugal before going off the road.

His main programme has been in WRC2, where his title hopes recently ended with a Rally Australia crash, and he also won his home round of the European Rally Championship.
