Alonso hesitant over Formula 1 future

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso was hesitant over his F1 future when asked in the build up to the Japanese Grand Prix if he could depart the team at the end of the season for a seat at McLaren or Red Bull.

In recent weeks, two-time World Champion Alonso has been linked with a return to McLaren and a swap arrangement with Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel for 2014, even though the Spaniard is contracted to Ferrari.

Failing to deny the rumours, Alonso says he is currently putting on track performance before his future.

"I live for my job and I prepare myself from January 1 to December 31 with every team I drive for," said Alonso. "It's no different here but it is more special because this is a different team and the best team in the world.

"Over these five years I've been giving everything on the track – the numbers speak for themselves. Outside the track, sometimes it was public and sometimes it was not, my priority is always in the best interest of Ferrari.

"I'm aware of the rumours that come out every day. It's not helping. We are in the middle of a fight with Williams in the Constructors' Championship and I would like to help Ferrari to [achieve] the maximum. This is the first priority for me, to help the team on track, and my second priority will be my future if there is anything to talk about."

When specifically questioned about a move to McLaren or Red Bull in coming seasons, Alonso was evasive, explaining: "This is a very difficult question to answer. I will repeat the answer that I will do the best for Ferrari."
