AUTOSPORT has learnt that the electric-vehicle championship is working on a revised format under which the fastest driver in each of the four 10-minute mini-sessions would proceed to a final round of qualifying.

Championship bosses have admitted that changes to qualifying are planned, but they are so far refusing to reveal exact details.

Formula E sporting manager Benoit Dupont told AUTOSPORT: “It is something we are studying, but we won’t be able to talk about it until the sporting regulations are published.”

Changes to the sporting regulations ahead of the season two opener in Beijing in mid-October can be ratified at the next meeting of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council at the start of that month.

Drivers were allocated a spot in one of the four sessions by lottery in the opening season of Formula E and the grid set according to the lap time recored by each.

Under the new proposal, the fastest driver in each session would now fight it out for the top four spots in the additional session.
