In his place, Eric Cowdin, who engineered Ganassi's No. 8 Indy car last year, will serve as Kimball's engineer. According to Chip Ganassi Racing managing director Mike Hull, Goldberg's return to the team's sports car operation was a perfect fit.
"We're really fortunate we have opportunities inside the building for engineers to have new opportunities," Hull told RACER. "This is a big project, and Brad is a person who can wrap his arms around it and do a really good job with it. He has sports car experience with our team, he's done the Rolex 24 with us every year, and we didn't make the decision for him. He was happy to join the Ford program and we're also happy we have an engineer of Eric Cowdin's capabilities to step right in and work with Charlie."
Kimball made great gains in 2015 with Goldberg and coach Dario Franchitti pushing the Novo Nordisk-sponsored driver to new heights. Hull expects the upward trend to continue in 2016 with Cowdin on the timing stand.

According to Hull, the scale of Ganassi's new program for Ford, and representing the brand on its return to international sports car racing, made bringing Goldberg (RIGHT) back from IndyCar an easy decision for the team.
"Brad's really involved there; he's got his hands on everything," he said. "He's very much an attention-to-detail engineer, but he's also a driver's engineer. He doesn't try to interpret what the driver is saying; he tries to get on the same page with the driver, and he does a terrific job.
"He's doing that on the sports car side for us, and with a new project starting from the ground up, it's just what you need from an engineer, so it's a great fit to have him in IMSA on our behalf."
