Rossi tests at Misano to assess fitness
Valentino Rossi completed a handful of laps at the Misano circuit on Monday to assess his fitness level ahead of a potential return at the Aragón Grand Prix.
Rossi sustained fractures to his right leg in an enduro accident at the end of last month, ruling him out of his home race in San Marino, and casting doubt over his participation at future events.
Having expressed a desire to return "as soon as possible", the Yamaha rider started light physiotherapy just over a week ago, and has now taken to the track, just 18 days after his crash.
Doctors had advised around 30 to 40 days of rest.
In order to "put his fitness level to the test", Rossi completed a few laps of Misano on a YZF-R1M, before rain disrupted the trial run.
As the day was cut short, the assessment of Rossi's physical condition proved "inconclusive", but he is expected to complete further running on Tuesday.
According to Yamaha, Rossi will decide by the end of Wednesday whether he will attempt to take part in this weekend's Aragón event.
World Superbike rider Michael van der Mark has been named as Rossi's replacement.
