Yamaha rider Rossi sustained the injuries in an enduro training crash and missed his home Grand Prix at Misano, though vowed to return to action "as soon as possible".

Earlier this week, he got back on a bike (the YZF-R1M) at Misano, running on Monday and Tuesday, and reporting an "improved feeling" on the second test day.

Doctors had advised a rest period of 30 to 40 days, but Rossi's outing came just 18 days after the crash.

Rossi announced that he would attempt to return at Aragón and, on Thursday, passed the mandatory physical check by the MotorLand Chief Medical Officer.

World Superbike rider Michael van der Mark, who was originally named as Rossi's replacement for Aragón, will remain on standby, should the situation change.

Rossi will assess his condition following first practice.
